8 Declarations for a Disciple Maker

Day 1: Disciple Makers Vision

Declaration #5: Disciple makers see potential in their disciples.

  1.       A disciple maker is able to see the hand of God in their life.
  2.       A disciple maker envisions God using and magnifying their positive qualities for His Kingdom.
  3.       A disciple maker encourages their disciple when things are down.

Final Thoughts

David and Jonathan had a peculiar relationship. David was anointed to be king. Jonathan had rights to be heir to the throne. Yet they made a covenant with each other and moreover, Jonathan poured himself into David, even protected him knowing that David would ascend to the place which was rightfully his to inherit. Jonathan was able to see potential in a ruddy young man, and be obedient to the voice of God to come alongside David and mentor him for the job which was Jonathan’s and even protect David when his father was seeking to destroy him.  Is there a Jonathon among us?

Biblical Devotion

Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  (6) In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Philippian 4:6-8  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  (7) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (8) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Psalms 37:4-5  Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.  (5) Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.

Ephesians 3:14-21  For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,  (15) from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,  (16) that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,  (17) so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, (18) may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,  (19) and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (20) Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,  (21) to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

1 John 5:14-15  And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.  (15) And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Philippians 3:12-15  Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.  (13) Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,  (14) I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (15) Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.
