Go Fish Devotional - Week 10

Fish Finders and Boat Sonar; the attitude of a disciple maker

Day 4: Walk Slowly Through the Crowd

If you want to really have the intentional and purposeful attitude of finding that disciple, walk slowly through the crowd with the mentality of “there you are,” while praying for God to direct you, and to increase Himself in you.

  1. The gift of discernment will allow you perceive what is at work.
  2. The gift of the word of knowledge will give you knowledge about a matter you have no personal knowledge of.
  3. The gift of the word of wisdom will allow you to speak keenly into another’s life and demonstrate acute judgement.

Final Thoughts

“Walking slowly through a crowd,” and “there you are” are not mutually exclusive terms. It is necessary that these attitudes accompany one another in disciple making. A disciple making attitude will produce the action where you are intentionally “walking slowly through a crowd” saying to yourself to the future disciples you see, “there you are.” This is an intentional and purposeful attitude of disciple making.

There are two ways we put this into effect: the first is our human determination. We determine that every day we will intentionally go through our daily routes and places with the express desire to “walk slowly” looking for that person so we can say, “there you are.” The second is our faith in God. We place our hope and expectation in Him that a door will be open to share our testimony with another in a meaningful way. We can pray a few things everyday as well to help focus our Spirit:

  • Jesus, you must increase and I must decrease. When I meet someone let them see more of you, and less of me. Let your Holy Ghost flow through me and let them experience your joy, peace, comfort and rest through me. Let them desire that more.
  • God give me the Gifts of the Spirit which will allow me to build a meaningful relationship and ministry to someone in a truly personal way. Give me wisdom so my words are yours and not mine. Give me understanding and discernment to perceive what the other person is going through. Give me knowledge so I can aid them where they need it the. Allow me to exercise these gifts for your glory, and not mine.

Biblical Devotion

Psalms 37:5-6  Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.  (6) He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

1 John 5:14-15  And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.  (15) And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Proverbs 16:1-3  The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.  (2) All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. (3)  Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

Galatians 6:8-10  For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.  (9) And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (10) So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Luke 10:33  But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.

Colossians 4:3-6  At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— (4)  that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. (5) Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. (6) Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
