Go Fish Devotional - Week 11

The 4 “Don’t Waits” of Disciple Making

Day 1: Don’t wait until you have all the answers.

  1. We will never have all the answers to life.
  2. We will never have all the answers to the Bible.
  3. Your love for the lost should supersede your fear of not knowing the answer.

Final Thoughts

We will never have all the answers, so we certainly shouldn’t wait until we gain more experience, or more knowledge before we begin to share the testimony of our encouraging letter with someone else. In many ways this type of waiting is rooted in a lack of faith and confidence, and perhaps there is some pride there as well. We draw our confidence from the Lord, and we put our faith in him. If you find yourself waiting until you have more or better answers, begin to pray for humility, faith that God will not put you into a position where you won’t succeed, and that you draw your confidence from Him.

Biblical Devotion

The devotion today focuses on humility. If we humble ourselves before the Lord he can begin to do an amazing work in our hearts and we will truly realize how we need Him. The beautiful thing is, when we see how we need Him, our faith will increase and so will our confidence.

Colossians 3:12-17  Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,  (13) bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  (14) And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. (15) And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.  (16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (17) And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Ephesians 4:1-7  I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,  (2) with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, (3) eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  (4) There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— (5) one Lord, one faith, one baptism, (6) one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.  (7) But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

James 4:6-10  But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”  (7) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (8) Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  (9) Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. (10) Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Proverbs 11:2  When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.

Proverbs 15:33  The fear of the LORD is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
