Pray

Pray together for the group meeting, and any pressing needs within the group.

Review

Each week you’ll spend some time reviewing the previous week’s lesson. Did anything happen last week that brought the lesson to mind, and what did you learn from it?

Watch

Watch the following discussion-starter video. It’ll set the topic of discussion for the group.

Read: 2 Samuel 12:1-7

  1. One person will first read the scripture selection in the King James Version.
  2. Next, another person will read the same passages in a modern language or amplified version for more clarity such as the New Living Translation (NLT), Message Bible (MSG), New English Translation (NET), Amplified Bible (AMP), etc. We recommend using the YouVersion Bible app.

Retell

  1. One person will begin retelling the scripture passage in their own words (a new person to start each week is great!) Then…
  2. As a group, work together to fill in gaps and build the story. This will help us internalize and own it. Be sure everyone participates.

Discuss

Together, share around the group how the topic and scripture setting applies to your life personally. Here are some thoughts to consider for discussion… don’t let the discussion stop here, though… what questions can you ask that will help uncover God’s message?

📚Knowledge, 💡Understanding and ⚡️Wisdom

Nathan comes to David.

  1. 📚How did Nathan become the messenger to David?
  2. 📚Why do you think God would send Nathan instead of talking to David directly?
  3. 📚Do you think David was able to hear from God at this time? Had he ever been?
  4. 💡Where do you think David was? Why?
  5. ⚡️How do you think Nathan felt coming to David? Do you think he felt safe?

Rich man Poor man.

  1. 📚What is the story that Nathan tells David?
  2. 📚How much did the rich man have, and what was its value to him?
  3. 📚How much did the poor man have in comparison to the rich man?
  4. 💡How easy was it for David to relate to the poor man, and why? How about they rich man?
  5. 💡How important was the one little lamb?
  6. ⚡️Have you ever had something very precious taken from you? Explain.

David ‘s Reaction.

  1. 📚What was David’s reaction to Nathan’s story?
  2. 📚Who represented David in the story, the rich man or poor man?
  3. 📚Based on David’s reaction, what should happen to David?
  4. 💡Why is it easier to think clearly about a story, than about real life?
  5. ⚡️What do you think would have happened if God had confronted David directly?

Just listen.

  1. 📚Are we always in a spiritual place to hear from God directly?
  2. 📚What might cause us to lose our ability to readily hear from Him?
  3. 💡Do you have people in your life that have permission to speak frankly to you?
  4. ⚡️How can you tell if you’re in a condition to hear uncomfortable truths from God?
  5. ⚡️What can we do to get to, and stay, in a place were we can hear God?
