Unstoppable Victory

Pray

Pray together for the group meeting, and any pressing needs within the group.

If any groups attendees have kids that need a wholesome distraction during the discussion here is a YouTube channel with many great Pentecostal videos for kids.

Review

Each week you’ll spend some time reviewing the previous week’s lesson. Did anything happen last week that brought the lesson to mind, and what did you learn from it?

Watch

Watch the following discussion-starter video. It’ll set the topic of discussion for the group.

Read: Acts 16:16-31

  1. One person will first read the scripture selection in the King James Version.
  2. Next, another person will read the same passages in a modern language or amplified version for more clarity such as the New Living Translation (NLT), Message Bible (MSG), New English Translation (NET), Amplified Bible (AMP), etc. We recommend using the YouVersion Bible app.

Retell

  1. One person will begin retelling the scripture passage in their own words (a new person to start each week is great!) Then…
  2. As a group, work together to fill in gaps and build the story. This will help us internalize and own it. Be sure everyone participates.

Discuss

Together, share around the group how the topic and scripture setting applies to your life personally. Here are some thoughts to consider for discussion… don’t let the discussion stop here, though… what questions can you ask that will help uncover God’s message?

In the city of Philippi

  1. What were Paul and Silas doing when the girl with the spirit of divination started following them?
  2. Who was the girl with the spirit? Do you think she was known in the city?
  3. If the girl was speaking truth why would Paul be grieved by her actions?
  4. <<everyone answer>>  Have you ever had someone with a shady reputation endorse your actions? How did that make you feel?
  5. Why is it important for the church to have a good reputation?

To the market!

  1. Why did the masters of the girl catch Paul and Silas?
  2. Who was at the marketplace? In our day where would Paul and Silas have been taken?
  3. What was Paul and Silas accused of? Was this really what the men were upset about?
  4. <<everyone answer>> When you were a child did you ever lie about a sibling to “get even”?
  5. Why will people today make up something to attack the church about instead of attacking our faith?

Off to Prison

  1. What condition were Paul and Silas in at midnight?
  2. How easy is it to sing or worship when you don’t feel good?
  3. <<everyone answer>> have you ever been in an earthquake?
  4. How did Paul and Silas worship in spite of the situation bring victory?
  5. How many pieces did God move to bring Paul and Silas to the jailer? – what was God’s goal?

Eyes on the prize

  1. As Paul and Silas went through this ordeal – could they see the redemption of the Jailer coming?
  2. What is God’s purpose with the church in our world today? What should we expect God to do with every situation?
  3. If we really believe that God will use the church to bring victory through redemption in every situation how would we act?
  4. What should we remind each other when times get tough?
  5. <<What situation are you in right now – Let’s pray that God shows you HOW he will use it for salvation.>>
